A shocking scene unfolded at an event in northern India's Uttar Pradesh where an incensed man shot at a woman's face after the woman decided to take a break from dancing on the stage.

According to reports, the incident took place on December 1 in the state's Chitrakoot district.

The visuals show the dance performance by two women when suddenly a man comes on to the stage and opens fire at the victim.

Brandishing a gun, the man had warned the group of performers, sitting on the dais, before shooting the woman.

The people sitting at the back watch in horror as the girl is suddenly shot. Her co-performer grabs her as she falls down in an unconscious state.

According to the reports, the alleged perpetrator was inebriated.

Reports also say that the girl was rushed to the hospital in the state's Kanpur city and is recuperating.

The local police are investigating the matter.
