The Lord Mayor of Westminster Councillor Ruth Bush is addressing those doubting the quality of the Norway spruce, installed in Trafalgar Square straight after the Christmas Tree 2019 lighting ceremony on Thursday, 5 December:
"This is not a British tree, this is not an American tree. This is a Norwegian tree. Therefore it doesn't look like a British tree, it doesn't look like an American tree. It looks like a Norwegian spruce and the trees in the forest, surrounding this tree, all look like this tree. It is not weak, it is not sparse. It is a Norwegian spruce and that's what it looks like ... this is a beautiful tree."
