A furious mother was arrested after allegedly throwing an air freshener in a shop assistant's face.

Medilina Berja Yamazaki, 33, went to return her fragrance to the stand inside the mall in Cebu City, the Philippines, on Saturday (07/12) afternoon.

But she allegedly started arguing with the store attendant Jennifer Fabillar, 26, who then asked her to stop her baby from touching the products.

The request for her to control her infant sparked anger and the mother began yelling at the worker.

Footage taken by a shopper on a the floor appears to show the moment Medilina threw the product at Jennifer's face.

Medilina's Japanese husband can be seen standing next to her while the incident unfolds, without trying to stop his wife.

The shop assistant suffered a cut below her eye and bruising on her cheek after the alleged attack.

Mall security guards took the angry customer away from the store before police arrived and arrested her.

Police Chief Master Sergeant Roland Camilo from Mabolo Police Station said that Jennifer came to them on the day of the incident to file a complaint against Medilina for physical injuries.

She said the angry mother allegedly made threats of violence against her that left the shop assistant scared to return to work.

Medilina may face a physical injury charge which is punishable by imprisonment of up to 30 days.

Police Sergeant Camilo added: ''The suspect caused an injury to the shop assistant and was held in custody immediately after the incident. She claimed that she was protecting her baby but whatever happened there was no justification for attacking the store clerk.

''The injured lady's employers are helping her to file a case against the suspect.''
