This is the bizarre moment a robber punched a shop assistant in the mouth and then stopped to check he was alright.

Anucha Pasaen, 22, walked behind the counter of the 7-Eleven store and thumped Annop Samuksaman, 35, during a night shift last Thursday (December 5).

CCTV shows how the attacker then consoled the terrified worker by putting his arm around him and using a tissue to stop the flow of blood from his lip.

Anucha also called over several other staff to help the injured man. He then asked for 3,700 THB in cash (92 GBP) from the till, before apologising and making a praying motion to the shop worker.

Police arrived at the scene in Roi-Et, northern Thailand where they were bemused by the "kind" thief. He was later arrested in neighbouring province Nakhon Ratchasima and identified as the suspect in CCTV.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Prasit Thepteelek said: "The kind thief was arrested at a checkpoint while he was running away from Roi-Et. Officers there picked him up for drugs and were alerted to the arrest warrant for the robbery.

"We have already coordinated with the police in Roi-Et and the thief will be sent back so he can be charged over the theft from the supermarket.''
