Agitated residents of the east Indian state of Assam came out in large number to protest, despite police and military crackdowns on their movements and a temporary internet blackout.

The latest footage shows protests that took place on December 12 in Assam's Guwahati city.

Visuals show where protesters have burned out the public buses while shouting slogans against the government. Later footage also shows the state Chief Minister's vehicle being diverted by protesters.

The protests began on December 11, when the Indian government passed the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in both houses of the national parliament.

The bill allegedly grants citizenship to non-Muslim migrants emigrating into India from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.

Agitated residents of Assam came out in a large number to protest despite Section 144 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC)being enforced in most parts of the state.

Troops of army personnel have been deployed across the northeast, to check no untoward incident takes place.

Section 144 of IPC, which prohibits an unlawful assembly of a group of people in a public sphere, has been enforced, followed by internet shutdown in the area.

However, the raged residents did not stop and have been protesting tirelessly in the state.

The agitation commenced the day the Indian government passed the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in both, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha (Lower and Upper) house of the national parliament.

The bill allegedly enables people of Hindu, Sikhs, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi and Christian coming from Pakisthan, Afghanisthan and Bangladesh to seek citizenship right in India.

Onlookers are seen capturing this moment of power shown by the people which has forced a political leader to fail in front of the public.

Protests against the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) 2019 which allegedly singles out people from the Islamic faith, living in countries such as Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan, and makes it difficult for them to obtain Indian citizenship.

However, the same bill will enable people from the three aforementioned countries and six other communities- Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi and Christian- to seek citizenship in India.

While the state of Assam has become the new epicentre of this protest as masses gather in huge numbers making this their new focus, causing chaos in this once peaceful land.

This is due to the fear that CAB will affect the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system which allows Indian citizens inward travel for a limited time into a protected area.

To keep the situation in check, a large number of Army personnel have been deployed in the state.
