A toll booth plaza and a bus were set ablaze in the latest protests against India's newly-amended Citizenship Act.

In Bahrampur Murshidabad District in West Bengal, passengers were forced off a bus by protesters who then set a number of busses ablaze.

National Highway 34, one of the arterial roads that connects north and south Bengal, was blocked in Murshidabad.

The protests were the latest demonstrations against the new Citizenship Act, which allows persecuted religious minorities from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan to seek Indian citizenship, unless they are Muslim.

While some people oppose the discriminatory aspect of the new law, many people in north eastern India in particular are concerned it could mean an influx of immigrants from Bangladesh.
