East Croydon Signal Failure Chaos at Victoria Station London 18 Dec 2019

A major signal failure in the East Croydon area of south London has brought main line train services at one of the UK's busiest stations to a stand still this afternoon. There was knock on chaos to well into the evening's peak commuting time and right up until the end of the day. Train services operated my Southern and Gatwick Express had to be temporarily suspended as trains ground to a halt in the affected area, unable to proceed onward to their destinations whilst engineers rectified the issue.

Trains into and out of London Victoria station, Britain's second busiest railway station were severely affected as were Thames Link services to and from London Bridge and London Blackfriars stations.

This is video was shot from my perspective as I witnessed the build up to the ensuing chaos at London Victoria station from 4:30 pm onwards. By 5:15 pm I decided to leave and go via Underground train to Balham via Stockwell and from there to take a bus the rest of the way home to Streatham Common.

I discovered that I had left Victoria station not a moment too soon as pictures and video footage taken by others that I saw on news websites when I eventually got home moments after I had left showed a considerably worse situation in terms of overcrowding at the station concourse.
