This was the stunning moment a brave dog got into a fierce fight with a cobra.

The face-off that extended for nearly an hour left both the dog and the cobra dead, and a crowd of onlookers teary eyed.

The dramatic incident occurred at Rangeilunda near Berhampur in eastern India on December 20.

A snake tried to sneak into a shopping complex in the city when it was spotted by a female dog ‘Rani,’ which was looked after by a few shop owners.

Rani fought with the cobra ferociously and several attempts to separate them went in vain. The snake died of injuries first and a few minutes later, the Rani also succumbed to the venom.

Founder of Snake Helpline Subhendu Mallik said: “None of them had any chance of survival. They fought for so long the snake injected ample venom. The dog also bit the cobra to death.”

Heartbroken Shopkeepers said they were grateful to Rani as it had stopped a dangerous snake from entering the complex and biting someone.

“It gave up its life to protect us,” said a shopkeeper.

The shopkeepers later cremated Rani and the cobra separately following Hindu rituals.
