A brave pet lover ran inside a raging fire engulfing her house to save her two cherished poodles.

Pimapinya Sirichaitan, 55, was returning from a funeral when flames spread through the building in Chiang Mai, northern Thailand last Thursday (December 19) night.

She rushed home after a neighbour called her about the fire, realising that her two poodles were still inside the house.

When Pimapinya arrived back, her pooches were trapped in the inferno so she decided to cover herself with a wet towel and dash inside to save them.

The woman was able to bring the two pooches out safely and the firefighters sprayed water on them to cool them down.

The relieved owner said the survival of her pooches was all that mattered - even though her house had been burned down.

Pimapinya said: "All I have is these two pooches, I was more worried about them than the house.

''Saving my dogs was all I could think about, even if it meant I had to risk my own life.''

Firefighters believe that the fire started from an electrical short circuit from inside Pimapinya's house.

A fireman at the scene said: "From our rough checks, we think there could have been electrical short from inside the house that caused a spark, which then became a fire. The police will come and check it again."

The fire spread to both of the homes next door and caused around one million THB (24,245 GBP) in damage.
