Dozens of people pushed cars aside to clear the way for fire engines after a 30-storey residential building caught fire in southern China's Chongqing on New Year's Day.

In the video, the building was engulfed by huge flames after the fire spread from the first floor to the top.

A balcony on the first floor of the residential building caught fire and it spread to the 29th floor.

Fire engines can be seen parked on the side of a road and a man was heard saying: "The fire engines cannot approach the building, they are all blocked outside the residential community."

Another clip shows a group of people managing to lift a car out of the way to clear the road for the fire engines.

Eventually, the fire was put out and no casualties were reported.

The cause is being investigated, according to reports.

2020年1月1日17时许，重庆市渝北区加州花园小区A4幢发生火灾，应急、消防、公安等救援力量迅速赶赴现场疏散人群和灭火救援，明火于19时20分扑灭，无人员伤亡。
火灾发生后，市委、市政府高度重视，有关市领导率市应急、消防、公安、卫生健康等部门迅速赶赴现场指挥救援，会同渝北区有序开展人员搜救、灭火处置相关工作。截至19时20分，现场明火扑灭。经消防人员逐层逐户搜索排查，无人员伤亡。

初步核查，火灾从加州花园小区A4幢第2层（共30层）一居民房阳台起火，火苗成立体状燃烧，引燃外墙保温层及雨棚，蔓延至第30层阳台并窜至部分居民房屋内。火灾具体原因正进一步调查中。目前渝北区正全力做好受灾群众安抚、安置等善后工作。
