A man who had allegedly had too much to drink tried to befriend a wild cobra in northern India on January 1st and was bitten by the reptile.

Prakash Barwa was filmed sitting in a field in the Dousa district of Rajasthan trying to talk to the venomous snake.

To the horror of onlookers who had gathered to watch the strange behaviour, Barwa then picked up the animal and was bitten.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was treated for his injuries.

The incident took place on January 1 in the state's Dousa district.

Visuals show the tipsy man sit in front of a cobra in the middle of a barren agricultural field.

The man starts a monologue as he tries to strike a conversation with the snake, he seen folding his hands in a gesture of worshiping the animal.

Still unsatisfied, the intoxicated man tries to catch the serpent with his bare hands.

The agitated reptile strikes back and takes a threatening stance against the man.

The fool still continues to irk the animal by blocking it exit even when the crowd gathered advice him not to do it.

Finally, the man identifies as Prakash Barwa comes to his senses after the creature bites him and escapes.

He was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital, where he was treated for his injuries.
