Firefighters rescued a little egret that was tangled in fishing lines and stuck hanging on power lines in northern China.

In the video, shot in the city of Shangluo in Shaanxi Province on January 5, a small egret can be seen hovering under power lines trying to free itself from the fishing line.

A fireman was lifted up by a crane and cut off the fishing line before bringing it back down to the ground.

Firefighters cleared the rest fishing line and checked the bird's wings before they returned back to the wild.

1月5日上午11点多，一只白鹭在商洛市区丹江湿地上空飞翔，翅膀突然被线缆上挂着的鱼线缠住，倒挂在空中，不断地挣扎，看着让人十分心疼……几位热心市民在河堤上商量营救办法，有人拿着从家里取来的鱼竿尝试解救，但未能成功。消防队员赶到现场，但消防车无法开进河道中央。此时，市民王震灵机一动让朋友开着吊车来到了现场，将一名消防员吊起，慢慢接近被困鸟儿后，剪断鱼线，将其解救了下来。野生动物保护站：被困的鸟儿是一只成年白鹭（属于小白鹭），翅膀没有明显外伤，因倒挂时间长加上受到惊吓，经过时间恢复后才能放归自然。
据介绍，白鹭体型小，羽冠及胸饰羽全有，常栖息于稻田、沼泽、池塘间，以及海岸浅滩的红树林里。辛海涛说，小白鹭是鹭类中最常见的一种，通常简称为白鹭，属于《濒危野生动植物种国际贸易公约》名单上的物种，已列入《国家保护的有益的或者有重要经济、科学研究价值的陆生野生动物名录》。
