A drunk driver without a licence smashed their car into a shop and threatened the staff with a sword in eastern China at around 5 am on January 4.

The CCTV video, filmed in the city of Huai'an in Jiangsu Province, shows a white Audi plunging into a shop through its doors and reversing back into the road.

The driver then came out of the car and took a sword out from the backseat, before using the weapon to hit the glass door and walking into the shop.

A woman staying overnight in the shop walked out and tried to deter the man.

Police arrested the driver at his home after receiving the alert.

According to reports, the man named Shi went for drinks with a friend and had an argument with him. Because Shi was angry, he drove to smash his friend's shop and used a sword to threaten the employees.

Shi has been detained and the case is in further investigation.
