The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, announced on Wednesday (January 8) that they are stepping back from their senior roles within the British Royal family.

"After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution," the couple wrote in an Instagram post. "We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen."

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, visited South Africa's oldest Mosque, The Auwal Masjid, in the historic Bo-Kaap area of Cape Town. The Bo-Kaap was know as the Malay Quarter during colonial times, as it was the area where the Malay slaves lived.

Prince Harry and his wife Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, paid a visit to the historic District Six Museum in Cape Town.

District Six was one of the places which experienced forced removals during apartheid and is one of the most historic places in South Africa.
