Smog engulfs tower blocks in Bangkok as pollution levels soar
Thick clouds of smog engulfed Bangkok on Friday morning (January 10) as levels of pollution soared.
Footage from inside an office shows haze choking tower blocks in Thai capital with levels of the harmful PM2.5 particles reaching 120 microgrammes per cubic metre. The safe level is 50.
Readings of the pollution levels found that the majority of the city was covered in dangerous levels of the toxic pollution.
The country's Pollution Control Department has struggled to tackled the clouds of fine dust particles, which caused mass sickness last February fuelled by farmers burning excess crops.
It is feared that the situation could worsen this year if stagnant weather conditions remain and the same process of burning waste crops to clear patches of land is repeated.
