Motorists in northern India were stunned on Wednesday (January 8th) when a large avalanche slid down a mountainside and onto the road in front of them.

The incident took place in Kinnaur district in the state of Himachal Pradesh.

Filmer and local man Arun Negi, who at the time was working in local transportation ferrying tourists around, captured the moment that shows motorists risking their lives to film as huge piles of snow are shunted towards them.

Realising they may be in danger, one driver starts to shout "Go back! Go back!"

At the end of the video, a van can be seen almost crushed at the side of the road by the great mounds of snow and ice.

Horrifying incident witnessed by the commuters as avalanche comes crashing down the road, forcing commuters to run for their live.

The incident took place on January 8 in Kinnaur district in the north Indian state of Himachal Pradesh.

Visuals, captured by the commuters, show the terrifying incident unfold as the massive snow comes sliding and rolling down the road.

Risking their lives, the locals can be seen filming the scene while also ensure no untoward incident takes place.

As the giant glacier make its move towards the passengers, terrified by it they run while some can be heard exclaiming,"reverse the vehicle, go back go back !".

According to the reports, the condition worsened due to the heavy snowfall in the mountain, which started falling due to the strong wind.

This has also blocked the National Highway, arterial route connecting the east and west of the country.
