Cardiff, Glamorgan, Wales, UK. 12th January 2020. Football fans resort to covering their faces with masks in protest of the police's decision to utilise facial ID technology. Supporters cover their faces as they arrive at Cardiff City Stadium to watch their teams in the South Wales derby between Cardiff and Swansea. South Wales Police has been criticised for its plans to use live facial recognition surveillance at this Sunday’s football match by fans, rights campaigners and a Police and Crime Commissioner who say the plans are “a step too far”. This is only the third time in more than two-and-a-half years that the technology has been adopted at a football match and is intended to prevent disorder that has in the past affected matches involving both clubs.
