Boy, aged 10, suffering from rare medical condition which affects the development of skin found in eastern India
A young boy suffering from a rare skin disease which affects the development of the skin, hindering its growth, was found in eastern India.
Belonging to a small village located in Ganjam district of Odisha, the child is dubbed as ' human snake' due to his patchy skin.
Visuals show despondent expression of a young boy covered in rough patches of hardened skin sitting outside a small hut.
The 10-year old boy is seen vigorously scratching his itchiness as flakes of dead skin gather at the ground.
The congenital disease has hampered the child's growth, restricting him from performing normal tasks.
According to the reports, the little boy is inflicted with an incurable condition called Lamellar Ichthyosis, which affects less than 1 out of 200,000 people.
The disease is caused due to genetic default which alters the normal speed of skin regeneration causing the epidermis to harden and develop rough and itchy surface.
Unfortunately, due to his condition, the boy identified as Jagannath is forced to shower and apply moisturisers every few hours.
His parents who happen to be daily wage labours are unable to afford his treatment costs and other medical expenses.
