Every year since they were first engaged in 2014, 26-year-old Ruby Smoot and her 28-year-old husband Austin have spent their New Year's Eve building a "blanket fort" in their living room.

This is their 6th annual playfully named "Fort Night."

The adorable timelapse video, taken in their Utah home on New Year's Eve 2019, shows the pair turning a collection of boxes, chairs and sheets into a cosy couples hideaway.

Ruby told Newsflare: "The tradition started when we were engaged and had recently moved to a town where we didn’t really know anyone.

"We didn’t want to leave our dog home alone and drive to one of our home towns for New Years so we decided to just make a fort at home and make crepes at midnight instead.

"It’s been a fun tradition ever since! We’ve even had other people come join us for it. We’ve made a lot of forts so it probably only takes about half an hour to make one."
