Western Province Athletics official Allen Barnes released on bail
Allen Barnes, who was an official of Western Province Athletics at the time of going missing, appeared in the Cape Town Magistrates Court on fraud charges for an amount of R250 000.00.
The 53 year old Barnes, was reported missing by his family on 4 January. On 10 January Barnes was arrested in Gauteng and made a brief court appearance and the case was transferred to Cape Town.
Barnes serves as the finance officer for WP Athletics and was reported missing after he failed to show up for an athletics event. He left his home with a vehicle belonging to his girlfriend and the vehicle was subsequently found at Cape Town International Airport.
Western Province Athletics opened a fraud case against Barnes and has called for special general meeting to be held on 6 February in order to recall Barnes from all of its structures.
Barnes was granted R5000.00 bail by the court and the case was remanded until 30 April 2020. Barnes was represented by attorney John Riley.
