This was the heart-stopping moment an Indian police official saved a passenger who was about to fall from a moving train.

A Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable, D Vijayakumar, was on duty on platform number 8 at Chennai Egmore Railway Station on January 22.

A passenger, carrying a handbag and backpack, arrived late and tried to get into Chennai Egmore-Dadar Express which had begun to move.

Though he managed to get in, he was unable to haul his heavy luggage in and began to lose balance.

Seeing the man dangling desperately from the door, Vijayakumar ran to help him and pushed him back into the coach along with the luggage.

The train stopped as someone pulled the chain and the passenger, who was in shock, thanked Vijayakumar for saving his life.

“Accidents happen when passengers arrive late and try to get into the train. While I am happy I did my duty, the man would have lost his legs or life if I was not there,” said Vijayakumar to local media.
