Buddhists at Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva Monastery, also commonly known as the One Thousand Faces Temple, in Tanjung Pinang city, Riau Islands ring in the Year of the Rat.

Filmed on January 24, local residents and tourists alike are seen visiting the thousand life-sized Buddha statues on display in celebration of the upcoming Chinese New Year.

Chinese New Year or Chinese New Year celebrations in Tanjungpinang are visited by Buddhists from various regions to go back to Tanjungpinang city, riau islands province, Indonesia. The Ksitigarbha Bodhsattva monastery that has a thousand Buddha statues is visited by Buddhists who wish to pray as well as Buddhist ninists. Ksitigarbha Bodhsattva temple is also visited by tourists from Singapore, Malaysia and Myanmar because it coincides with a long weekend.
The statue of a thousand Buddhas is located in the Ksitigarbha Bodhsattva Monastery or often called the Vihara of the Thousand Statue whose location is located at KM 14, Tanjungpinang City, Kepri Province.
The inspiration of making these statues comes from the sanctity of the arahats. Arahants are those who have attained the highest spiritual sanctity to follow Buddhism.
The average statue has a height of about 1.8 meters to two meters and the shortest 1.7 meters. The price of a statue is reportedly reached Rp25 million, and also certified warranty for 500 years made of granite that comes directly from China.
This monastery was built through donations from the Chinese community from various countries such as Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia and Taiwan.
This Thousand Statue monastery is crowded by people at the end of the week and getting crowded before the Lunar New Year. Visitors to this monastery are not only Buddhists but many are visited by Muslims. Many tourists take pictures with the background of these statues.
