A town in the Philippines is attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the "biggest cookie jar" containing 2,500 biscuits.

Footage from Bustos in Bulacan province on January 20 shows locals making the cookies from the Minasa pastry, a mix of coconut milk and cassava.

Bustos town Mayor Francis Juan said they had recruited bakers in the area to prepare the cookies within 34 days.

He said: "These Minasa cookies each measure 17 inches by 11 inches. They will be placed inside a cookie jar that is two metres high and three metres wide."

Juan said that the finished product will be presented to the Guinness World Records’ official adjudicator on February 21.

The Minasa cookies were first made in the town as a snack served to guests during the Spanish occupation of the country.
