Fishermen were surprised to find a number haul of fish when whey checked their nets on the shore on January 17.

Resident Noemi Melano said there had been hundreds of thousands of fish swimming in huge groups about 100 meters away from the beach in the village of Sawang in Romblon province, the Philippines.

The unusual amount had excited local fisherman who were all now sailing the area to catch as many as possible.

She said: "It took us hours to take all the fishes. The men finished work in the afternoon."

In the video, the fishermen can be seen pulling a large net enclosing the tuna fish inside.

The fish were sold at a lower price in the market because there were so many. Some of the fishes were also given to neighbours for free.

The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resource (BFAR) said that the incident should not be related to the recent eruption of the Taal Volcano in Batangas earlier this month.
