Cops needed to call for back-up to detain a rampaging wild monkey that raided their station stealing food.

A male crab-eating macaque emerged from a nearby jungle and grabbed snacks from the office in Loei, northeast Thailand last Saturday (January 25) morning.

The juvenile monkey bit two cops and pulled over sets of drawers spilling papers as police chased him out of the station.

Undeterred, the young offender returned to the crime scene on Monday (Jan 27) to try and steal more food. But the bobbies were waiting and already had the local animal catchers on standby.

Footage shows the monkey being lured with fruit into the back of a police truck before he was tied with a rope to prevent an escape.

Officers drove the troublesome macaque to woodland nine miles away from the station where he was released.

Police Lieutenent Colonel Terdtoon Soisookpaphan said they were terrified by the chaos the monkey had caused and hope he will not return again.

He said: "The monkey made a mess of the station. We were terrified by his wild behaviour and had to clear up the turmoil.

"He came back this morning and we were worried that he might be able to run away again so we caught him and took him as far away from the station as possible.''
