A local shopkeeper in Berhampur, eastern India spotted a stranded monkey on top of a cellphone tower on Tuesday (January 28).

Firefighters and local forest department personnel were called to the scene to discover the monkey had got one of it's limbs stuck at a height of 50 feet.

The heroic footage shows a man scale the cellphone and throw a net to free the animal.

Luckily, the monkey was unharmed and soon climbed down the tower by itself and ran away.

A shopkeeper saw a few monkeys playing on a cellphone tower in Berhampur in eastern India on January 27.

A day later he saw one of them still sitting there, and thinking something was amiss, he called the fire services personnel.

The firefighters and local forest department personnel went to the tower. When they climbed up they realised that the monkey had got one of its limbs stuck on a cell site at a height of 50 feet.

It had struggled to free itself and had failed.

Rescuing the monkey was tricky as it kept attacking the men who tried to free it.

If they took a stick to it it would push it away. If they put a net over it, it would overthrow it.

One of the men managed to put a net over it and freed its limb. But the monkey stayed put thinking that it was still trapped.

Rescuers again tried to throw a net over it to bring it down, but the monkey fought back and got out of the net. But it soon realised that it was free, came down the tower on its own and ran away.
