Baby elephant becomes stranded down well in east India and gets dug free by JCB

A baby elephant that fell into a farm well in east India was rescued on February 2 with the help of a JCB to dig it free.

A group of locals reached a farm well located on the outskirts of Digapahandi, Odisha early that morning and discovered the baby elephant. Later, they called up forest department officials.

A joint team of forest department officials and ODRAF personnel rescued the calf with the help of JCB machines of late post a Herculean effort.

According to sources, the calf fell 20ft into a farm well in Ganjam district. The elephant was part of a herd that was passing through the Alarigad area at night.

As the day broke, the rescue team arrived at the scene and managed to pull out the animal to safety after a six-hour-long operation with help of a JCB.
