Fuel thieves start massive oil fire trying to siphon from east Indian pipeline
A massive fire broke out on an oil pipeline in east India after several thieves accidentally ignited the oil floating on the river surface, while attempting to siphon some fuel.
The incident took place on February 1 in Burhi Dihing river in Dibrugarh, Assam.
Visuals show smoke billowing into the air as oil burns on the surface of the river, spilled from the pipeline.
The thieves were trying to steal oil by cutting the pipeline laid alongside the river.
Reports claim the flames have surrounded the area for the past three days and local authorities have not done anything to douse the fire.
The pipeline was used to transport crude oil from Duliajan plant of Oil India Limited to the refineries around the area.
