Watermelon Relay Races At Bizarre Village Sports Day
Village locals take part in a wacky sports day - having watermelon relay races while wearing oversize knickers. Footage from Monday (Feb 3) in Phayao, northern Thailand, shows the competitors from different villages running along a field while carrying the fruits. Men also had their faces painted. Local council officials organised the day to ease territorial tensions between the different village regions. Sub-district governor Piya Sangmanee: ''Initially, the event was the part of an anti drugs campaign in the area that causes conflict between different villages, but the day became much more about having fun.''
