Bungling temple thief alerts security by turning off the lights
CCTV footage captured the moment a man arrested by local after steal money in a charity box at a place of worship in Bukittinggi, Indonesia.
Filmed in early January 22, the thief using a rope entered the place of worship through ventilation. The petite offender's body makes it easily enter through the sidelines of the ventilation and then damage the wire.
Once inside, he went to the pulpit and turned off the lights. The perpetrator broke the padlock with a hammer then took out boxes filled with money and carried it to behind the pulpit.
Meanwhile, the perpetrator didn't expect the lights off making security guard suspicious. When he was busy putting money in his bag, without realizing it, the security guard with the residents had already surrounded and entered to arrest him.
"We were suspicious as the lights inside suddenly turned off. When we checked through the CCTV application on the cellphone it turned out there was someone behind the pulpit," said security guard Ridwan Kalek.
Bukittinggi police chief, AKBP Iman Pribadi Santoso said the suspect named Juanda Marcel alias JM 15 years old, stole along with two friends who were tasked with monitoring the situation outside who had fled.
"We have confiscated evidence in the form of a hammer that is used to pry a padlock, a bag containing the money from theft amounting to 1,938,000 rupiahs (108.5 GBP). Perpetrators are threatened with a sentence of 7 years in prison," said AKBP Iman.
