Panic buying sees this store in Hong Kong label certain shelves instructing customers to only buy a certain amount as locals fear the coronavirus outbreak will send them into lockdown.

Goods such as rice, soap, disinfectant and napkins have all either run out or in very low quantity as locals stock up as residents fear they may be put into a similar situation as the residents of Wuhan.

The footage, recorded on February 6, at around the 7-minute mark shows a label which reads, "due to a sudden surge in demand, each customer may purchase two units of below".

Panic buying by panicked residents caused several stores or groceries to run short of essential goods such as rice, soap, disinfecting liquids and sanitary napkins as can be witnessed from the empty shelves in this branch of Aeon, in the Megabox department store in Kowloon Bay. A rumor stating that Hong Kong would run short of toilet paper saw a rush on that commodity by the residents of the autonomous territory. The previous week, a similar rush caused stores to run out of fresh vegetables. As entry restrictions increased after the Hong Kong government shut down all land borders but two (Shenzhen Bay and the Zuhai-Macau bridge), and as confidence in the government is at an all time low, residents live in the fear of being placed under a similar lockdown as in Wuhan. Today, two more cases of Wuhan Coronavirus were identified in two separate hospitals in Hong Kong. At the same time, a cruise ship with 1800 passengers on board is also held under quarantine at the Kai Tak Cruise terminal.

One day after 10,000 people queued overnight to purchase facial masks, panic buying waves target various commodities such as toilet paper, rice, detergents, based on rumours circulated of possible shortages on these commodities. Stores in Hong Kong started implementing a rationing on essential goods such as detergents and soaps. In this video, you can see a Park n' Shop store in Choi Hung with its shelves emptied of rice, detergents and toilet paper. People rush to grab more toilet paper as it is resupplied by the store attendants. The Wuhan Coronavirus made the bustling territory a shadow of its former self, many companies implementing work at home schemes, and the government requiring its civil servants to adopt this scheme until 16 February.
