The Parliament of South Africa is ready for the 2020 State of the Nation Address. So says Ms Thandi Modise, Speaker of the National Assembly. In Compliance with the rules of parliament the President writes to the houses of parliament for a request of a joint sitting.
This year it will take place on the 13th of February 2020. taking into consideration the budgetary constraints on the South African Government, the State of the Nation program is being trimmed down.
In accordance with the rules, all former heads of state, deputies and ministers are invited. Ms Modise says embattled former President Jacob Zuma has been invited but has not indicated whether he would attend.
There has also been threats by the Economic Freedom Fighters to disrupt the address unless President Ramaphosa removes Public Enterprise Minister Pravin Gordhan.
The speaker also commented on the situation with the Chapter 9 institution, the Public protector for whom there has been calls made to be removed.
