A pregnant woman was forced to cross river in a sling due to the absence of proper road connectivity to her village.

A tribal woman, Dhaben Muduli of Ghataguda village in Koraput district in eastern India complained of labour pain on February 9.

As the village was cut off by the Muran river, an ambulance could not reach her.

Family members carried Muduli in a sling, waded through the river to reach, and walked for two kilometres to reach a spot where an ambulance could arrive.

The vehicle took her to Dasmantpur Community Health Centre (CHC), where Muduli and her child are stated to be stable.

Due to the lack of a road to the village, Ghataguda villagers are often forced to wade through the Muran river, risking their lives.
