Female nurses sent to Wuhan to help fight the coronavirus having their hair shaved sparked outrage online in China.

The video shows female nurses having their long hair completely shaved off on the first day they arrived in Wuhan in order to maximise their work efficiency.

The 26-year-old nurse named Ding Danyi could not hold her tears back during the hair shaving, "I keep the long hair for a long time, I did not even want to cut a little bit. But in order to fight against the virus, it is worth to shave all my hair."

According to reports, by having no hair it allows the nurses to remove and put on their protective clothing quickly.

A bunch of similar videos have been posted on Chinese social media in praise of female medical workers but it is unknown whether they volunteered to do so.

After the video went viral on Weibo and Wechat, it caused outrage online. A netizen commented " Even if long hair would bother them at work, can they not just cut it short? Why do they have to shave all hair off?"
