Indonesian activists dedicate their Valentine's Day to endangered orangutans
Celebrating Valentine's Day or Valentine's Day, a group of environmental activists in the city of Padang, West Sumatra Province held an orangutan rescue campaign, Friday, February 14, 2020.
Wearing Orangutan masks, they gather at the Padang Earthquake Monument while holding bananas that have been given pink ribbons and paper, like Valentine's gifts. In the paper, they explained the condition of the Orangutan which was alarming and threatened with extinction, because there was still a lot of hunting.
In the action, the activists distributed the bananas to the residents they met.
Giving bananas itself means that people do not give bullets to orangutans, but instead give love and the food they need, one of them with bananas. They hope that the community will also care about the fate of Orangutans.
The campaign, titled Banana Not Bullet, was also held simultaneously in a number of cities in Indonesia.
According to them, from 2006 to 2020, there were 54 cases of orangutan shooting, with 914 bullets. Even in February 2018, there was one case of Orangutan shooting, with 130 bullets in the Kutai National Park, East Kalimantan Province.
