Street vendor survives flames after pranksters set fire to his balloons
A street vendor survived after being engulfed in flames when teenagers set fire to his balloons.
Oliver Rosales, 29, was resting behind the colourful hydrogen-filled balloons outside a town hall in Manila, Philippines on Wednesday (February 12th).
CCTV shows how a group of teenagers arrived ten minutes later and did not see him napping under the huge bunch of cartoon-themed toys.
They then lit them as a joke - causing the balloons to explode in a ball of flames.
Oliver was trapped in the middle of the inferno and scrambled to safety but suffered second degree burns. The teenagers ran away down the street in the Pandacan area of the capital.
Pictures show the extent of the injuries suffered by the street seller, with second degree burns across his head, neck, arms, hands and legs.
Oliver said: ''I've been in pain ever since this happened. I have to dress the wounds every day.
''The balloons were my livelihood, too. I needed them to sell and earn money. I just can't believe those kids were so mean.
''I could have been killed. I am thankful I was able to get out alive.''
Town hall chairman Celso Esteban said that the thin film of plastic that the balloons were made of melted around Oliver's head and arms.
Officials identified seven lads who were involved in the fire and dragged them in to the town hall for questioning.
Celso said: ''Five of the boys involved were minors and the other two were over 18. They have all met with the victim but they haven't apologised.
''They said they just did it as a prank. They have agreed to pay for Oliver's medical costs if he does not file a police complaint against them. He has agreed to that.''
