Indonesian vendor reduces landfill waste by converting used tyres into useful everyday products
This family in Indonesia reduces landfill waste by converting used tyres into useful everyday products.
Footage from February 17 shows how used tyres are processed into various forms such as flower pots, swings, pans, buckets, chairs, raw materials and mattresses.
Armen, 35, has taken over his parents' business which started in 1980 in Padang City, West Sumatra, Indonesia.
The used tyres can be collected from scavengers or picked up at workshops with prices ranging from 1,000 Rupiahs to 10,000 Rupiahs depending on the size.
"This business is owned by my parents, by changing goods that are waste, into goods needed in the household," he explained.
Swings are sold 40,000 Rupiahs while flower pots start at 35,000 depending on the size.
"The amount sold every month is uncertain, but on average hundreds of units are sold and bought by consumers from various regions," he said.
The family business helps reduce the pile of garbage in landfills and also motivates residents to process used goods.
