This is the adorable clip of an elephant mother lending a trunk to her calf after it struggles to climb up a muddy bank.

The footage, filmed in Kruger National Park in South Africa on Monday (February 17), shows the elephants climbing out of the deep mud but the baby getting stuck and needing some help from his mother.

"The elephant mother quickly stepped closer and put her trunk around her youngster in order to help him getting stable again on his feet. [By] the end it looked like the elephant mother gave her son a comforting hug before he carried on again, looking all happy again," the filmer told Newsflare.

Finding elephants in the African wild is always a great experience and taking the time to watch them for a while can be very rewarding. While on safari in the Kruger National Park we had the fortunate opportunity to witness a heart-warming moment between an elephant mother and her calf. From our open safari vehicle, we sat watching a herd of elephants, busy splashing and playing in the mud about fifty meters in front of us. The elephants were in and out of a deep mud wallow, cooling themselves down from the heat. For some getting in the wallow was easy but getting out was a different story. My attention was drawn to a young male elephant that decided it was time to get out. The elephant calf was struggling to climb up the short slippery slope of the wallow. The calf was slipping and sliding, finding it hard to stay on his feet. It was not long when his mother realized what was going on. The elephant mother quickly stepped closer and put her trunk around her youngster in order to help him getting stable again on his feet. At the end it looked like the elephant mother gave her son a comforting hug before he carried on again, looking all happy again.
