An Indian man left his flourishing career to build a shelter dedicated to caring for abandoned and abused animals in Lonavala.

Sameer Vohra started the Kalote Animal Trust in 2017 after rescuing and rehabilitating animals in his home.

Vohra ran the shelter with money made from his previous career and donations from family and friends.

There are over 400 animals currently residing at the trust including, dogs, cats, horses, monkeys and donkeys.

Vohra said: "The Kalote Animal Trust is a labour of love. We try to keep costs at a bare minimum without compromising on the quality of life of the animals.

"But it is an uphill task as we do not have regular sponsors and currently we run on the goodwill donations of people. However, these donations are sporadic and we are looking for sponsors and partners who can donate regularly to our cause.

"The aim is to build state-of-the-art enclosures for our rehab program, as well as to grow our own fodder for our grazing animals."

This footage was filmed on February 14.
