In the wake of US President visit to India, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has erected a 4-foot-high wall to hide slums along the route that Donald Trump's motorcade will pass through.

On February 24, Trump is scheduled to Ahmedabad, the capital of Gujarat which is the home state of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

According to government officials, the authorities have spent $12 million in preparation for his visit. This sum is equivalent to about 1.5% of the annual budget for the home ministry in Gujarat.

Underfire for building an apartheid-like wall that separates the rich and the poor, AMC has come up with a clarification, justifying the move. Municipal Commissioner Vijay Nehra shared on Twitter: "The decision to build a four-feet wall was taken two months ago to prevent encroachments on the footpath and road,"

According to sources, more than 12,000 police personnel would be deployed across the city.

Along side building the wall, the AMC is also working on a war-footing to fix the pothole-riddled roads within the city limits.

"Eighteen roads of about 20 kilometers (12 miles) in length from Ahmedabad Airport to Motera Stadium have been widened or re-laid," Nehra said, adding that the improvements had been planned before Trump's visit was confirmed.

According to AMC commissioner Vijay Nehra, around $4.2 million have already been spent on widening of roads and improving infrastructure around the new stadium that Trump is all set to inaugurate.

The US president is slated to address a 100,000-strong audience from the same stadium.

Several artists have been engaged to rework the walls with paintings that will greet the US leader. The wall paintings read messages as "World's largest democracy meets world's oldest."

The city always had a problem with stray animals on the road. To keep stray animals away from Trump's convoy, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has employed teams to capture the stray animals.

According to sources, Trump's convoy will be greeted with a grand roadshow that will exhibit cultural displays from all the 28 Indian states. Also, school children are expected to perform along the stretch of the leader's cavalcade.
