China's upgraded facial recognition technology can identify masked faces during COVID-19 outbreak

A tech company in China has upgraded its facial recognition technology to be able to identify people wearing face masks during COVID-19 outbreak.

The video captured by Beijing Television on February 20, shows the employees from Hanwang Technology Co., Ltd scanning their faces covered by masks in front of the facial recognition device to enter the office building.

Hanwang Technology Co,.Ltd evolved the facial recognition technology so people wearing masks during COVID-19 outbreak do not need to take their masks off anymore, which helps prevent the spread of the virus.

According to Hanwang's vice-president, Huang Lei, they are going to add temperature detection and voice prompt to warn people who aren't wearing masks.
