An injured elephant, named Dilan, is being treated at the Elephant Training Center in Aceh Bear District, Aceh Province, Indonesia.

Footage recorded on Tuesday (February 25) shows the seven-year-old Sumatran elephant limping due to severe injuries on the right front leg.

The animal stepped on a hunter's snare in a forest near Alue Leuhop Village and it is believed that this wild elephant was trapped for three weeks before it was found by residents.

Three veterinarians from the Aceh Natural Resources Conservation Center were called to treat the injuries suffered by the protected animal.

The Coordinator of the Elephant Training Center confirmed that antibiotics and vitamins are being used to treat the elephant before it will be released back to its habitat.

The rise of wildlife hunting and also large-scale land clearing makes Sumatran elephants endangered in Aceh, according to data from the Aceh BKSDA.
