Worshipers made an offering of one hundred pig heads last Friday (Feb 21) morning to the Buddhist 'Holy Spirit' Father Phu.

The religious figures are lauded as an influential spirit and locals believe that sacrificing the pigs' heads will bring them good luck.

Nimit Thammathorn, the abbot of Wat Mongkol Nimit temple in Angthong, central Thailand, where the celebration was held, said this is the 44th year of the holy event.

He said: "We have celebrated the festival for Father Phu annual for more than forty years for now.

''The offering is the highlight of the year and locals all gather together to offer 100 heads of pigs."

One of the Buddhist well-wishers Laor Khopung, 78, who brought 30 pig heads to the temple, said her family wanted to be a part of the holy ceremony this year.

She said: "We are so blessed having a chance to offer thirty pig heads to Father Phu. My family and I have faith in him as we all our wishes come true when we call upon him."

After the rite had finished, all of the pig heads were handed out to Buddhist followers to eat for their dinner.
