Big Crocodile eats a Fish as a Fish Eagle watches

The African Fish Eagle (Haliaeetus vocifer) is one of Africa’s iconic birds – its haunting call is often heard near rivers and wetlands. This Fish Eagle was perched on a rock near the rapids at the Sabie River Causeway in Kruger National Park. While I was filming, I noticed a large Nile Crocodile (Crocodylus niloticus) in a rock pool near the Eagle. The Crocodile had a large fish that was too big for it to swallow, so every now and then it mashed the fish in its jaws, or shook it violently from side to side, trying to break it into smaller pieces to swallow. The Eagle sat watching for the whole time, perhaps hoping for a scrap of fish from the Crocodile.
