Helicopters dump water on forest fires in Thailand
A helicopter dumps water on raging forest fires in the Khao Yai National Park in Prachinburi, central Thailand, on Wednesday (February 26).
Fire crews are battling to contain the blaze, using aerial support to collect water from nearby dams and dropping it on the flames.
Officials from the country's Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation said the fires spread quickly because the province has seen no rain for over four months, and dry leaves are potential fuel for forest fires.
Winds are also helping to fan the flames, which began in the neighbouring Nakhon Nayok province but have spread eastwards.
If the fires continue spreading, they could reach Khao Samo Pun. The location has a treking route and is known for many varieties of flowers. Deeper into Khao Samo Pun is a rainforest that is home to many plant species and wild animals. If the flames continue to spread, they could have an adverse impact on natural resources and wildlife.
