Stray cat falls asleep in my lap

Yesterday (2/25/2020) was the second time I'd visited this abandoned restaurant in Austin, TX. I felt comfortable there because I was completely alone with my thoughts. I went there so I could figure out what to do next: I was about to get kicked out of my home, I got fired from my job a few weeks prior. I lost most of my friends, and didn't feel comfortable asking for help from the ones that remained. I was too embarrassed to tell them that my life wasn't going like I'd hoped.

I heard some meowing in the distance, and turned to see a beautiful cat walking toward me. I'm not even a cat person, and I couldn't help but admire how cute it was. It meowed again and jumped up behind me to the top of the wooden bench I was sitting on. The cat stayed there briefly before he migrated to my lap, where he nestled himself in and dozed off.

I sat there frozen, ready for him to scratch me, but he never did. He just slept. I couldn't believe what was happening; If this cat who spends it's unpredictable life outdoors, and has enough trust to sleep soundly in a stranger's lap, I couldn't help but re-evaluate my own circumstances.

I believe the lesson was about trust. Trusting in circumstances, good and bad. Trusting that everything that happens in life is meant to teach you an invaluable lesson. Maybe it was to ensure that even when you feel like you're completely alone, you never are.
