Local government in Aceh province, Indonesia punished eight individuals with public caning after being convicted of violating Islamic law.

Footage from March 2 in Banda Aceh shows several individuals being escorted to a stage where the public can watch them being repeatedly hit with a cane.

It was reported that one of the eight individuals was convicted of sexual harassment whereas the rest were convicted of committing other sexual acts between men and women.

Since 2001, Aceh is the only province in Indonesia that enforces Islamic law as an effort to prevent various forms of community ills, the Aceh Islamic Criminal Code also regulates sanctions for immoral practices and drinking.

The City Government of Banda Aceh, Aceh Province, Indonesia, gave caning to eight people (four men and four women) who were convicted of being found guilty of violating Islamic law in force in Aceh.

The execution of convicted violators of regional regulations (qanun) of Aceh was carried out in Bustanussalatin Park, Banda Aceh City, Monday 2 March 2020.

The Syar'iyah Court of the City of Banda Aceh handed down a caning sentence of between 21 and 42 canings against eight violators in accordance with article 24 paragraph 1 and article 46 of the Aceh qanun number 6/2014 regarding the jinayat law.

Eight violators were found guilty of the two who were not her muhrim.

This is certainly in violation of Islamic law and is worth giving enough whip.

This caning is the first caning sentence carried out by the Banda Aceh City Government in 2020. In addition, the caning of sexual harassers was also the first time carried out.
