Three motorcycle taxi riders attacked another rider from a rival company as he collected a passenger.

The men pounced on 'Grab' worker Tassada Fakfai, 26, as he arrived at an apartment block in Bangkok, Thailand, this morning (Mar 2).

Footage shows how they repeatedly punched, kicked and hit him with helmets.

His terrified customer, Amittaa Phongsawat, was also injured during the scuffle.

She said: ''These motorbike taxi guys attacked my Grab bike rider. One of them attacked my bike while we drove out from my condo.

''Luckily I didn't get any injuries from any accident but I was hit in the face by one of the bikers.''

Amittaa told police that after the Grab employee picked her up, one of the men rode up and asked ''Are you GrabBike?''. An argument started followed by a fight.

Bangkok Metropolitan Authority (BMA) spokesman Pongsakorn Kwanmuang said he was aware of the incident and disciplinary action would be taken against those involved.

Police later arrested the three attackers and they were each fined 1,000 baht and ordered to pay 1,000 each in compensation to the victim, who worked for Singapore-based Grab.

Officers said the motorcycle riders, Chawalit Sangsuwan, Dokrak Kamnueng and Thanakorn Kamnueng, admitted assaulting their rival.

Colonel Ritthee Pandam from the Khlong Tan district police station said the group had apologised.

There is a simmering and often violent rivalry in Thailand between taxi drivers and motorcycle taxi riders - both of which are regulated by the government - and those working for ride-hailing apps which are unregulated.

Grab is a company based Singapore which operates services similar to Uber in the West, including taxis and food deliveries.
