The sinkhole is around 3 meters wide & 6 meters deep, with water in the bottom first appeared on Saturday 29th February 2020 in a filed off Summer Lane on the outskirts of the Gem go the Peak, Wirksworth, Derbyshire.
The sinkhole is thought to be part of old lead mining works which litter this Derbyshire countryside.
It's believed that it opened up due to the heavy rain from the storms we have been having which in turn is washing the underground debris from old mine workings making the areas above unstable & potentially very dangerous.
Wirksworth is thought to be the lost Roman Lead Mining town of Lutudarum.
