A powerful storm ripped the roof off a house during a second night of torrential weather in northern Thailand.

CCTV footage shows how the strong winds and heavy rain tore the roof from a resident's home in Maha Sarakham province.

Torrential weather has hit northern Thailand for the last two nights as the country enters its tropical summer. There was also widespread damage caused by storms on Tuesday (March 3) night.

One person has been killed and several injured since the storms began this week.

More than 100 electric poles fell due to the strong winds while some 500 houses across five districts had their roofs blown away.

Gusts of wind and driving rain pounded the building in Maha Sarakham province at around 7pm local time. In nearby Khon Kaen, a 'cyclone' blew through a building, tipping over tables and chairs as staff and customers fled to safety.

Footage from the restaurant in Khon Kaen shows how screaming staff cowered on the ground as plates and cutlery flew around them.

The business owner, who did not want to be named, said that he scrambled for a safe place to shelter after the building was rocked by the storm.

He said: "The storm damaged the canteen furniture and even carried away a 1000Ibs vending machine. Luckily, none of us were injured by the cyclone."

In neighboring Maha Sarakham province, a resident's home CCTV system showed how the strong winds and heavy rain sweeping the region tore the roofing from his home.

He woke to find hundreds of pounds worth of damage to the property.
